A reading group, not a lecture series.

Dhaka AI Paper Club meets to read recent work in AI, systems and algorithms — properly, together, with the paper open.

Plenty of people in Dhaka read papers alone. It is slow, and the parts you misunderstand stay misunderstood. Reading the same paper as a room full of people who will argue with you is faster and considerably more interesting.

Each session covers one paper. Someone presents it for about forty minutes — the actual method, not a summary of the abstract — and then we spend at least as long on questions, objections and the parts that did not convince anyone.

We are not affiliated with any company or university. Anyone can come. Anyone who has done the reading can present.

Questions

Do I need a background in machine learning?
No. Sessions assume comfort with undergraduate maths and programming, but not that you already work in the field. Students, engineers and researchers all come.
Do I have to read the paper first?
It is not required, and nobody checks. You will get considerably more out of the discussion if you have at least skimmed it.
Is there a fee?
No. The club is free and always will be.
Can I present?
Yes — that is how the club keeps going. Write to us with the paper you want to cover and roughly when you are free.
What if I reserve a seat and cannot come?
Cancel from the link in your confirmation email. It takes one click, and your seat goes to the next person on the waitlist.
Is the session recorded?
Sometimes. When it is, the recording goes up on our YouTube channel and is linked from the seminar page.

Everyone attending agrees to our code of conduct. If something goes wrong at a session, tell an organiser.
